Lam attends Foreign Office reception

Director of Rugby, Pat Lam attended a reception at The Foreign and Commonwealth Office on Thursday (June 20th) to celebrate the connections that rugby has forged between the UK and Pacific Island Countries, and to mark the opening of three new diplomatic missions in the Pacific.

Lam was invited by The Rt Hon Mark Field MP, Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, and gave a speech about how rugby unites the world, from Samoa to the United Kingdom.

The rugby-themed event was an opportunity to celebrate the enduring friendships and broader benefits that sport can generate. Professional rugby players and coaches with Pacific ties will join us to share their exciting stories.

The UK will open three new High Commissions in Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu this year, doubling our diplomatic presence in the region. The UK looks forward to collaborating even more closely with Pacific nations on bilateral and global issues such as climate change.
