Lam confirms 2019/20 Gallagher Premiership squad

Pat Lam has confirmed his playing squad ahead of the 2019/20 Gallagher Premiership campaign.

Bristol Bears has already revealed the signings of England international duo Dave Attwood and Nathan Hughes to bolster their pack, while ten players are set to depart at the end of the season.

Lam has reduced his senior squad from 47 to 42 first team players, at this stage. Jordan Lay will return to Bristol Bears on a one-year deal, the club has confirmed.

Following discussions with the coaching staff, the Samoan international prop is set to remain at Ashton Gate for the 2019/20 campaign.

Jordan Lay is retained for the 2019/20 campaign (JMPUK).

Young Bristolians George Kloska, Blake Boyland, Jack Bates - along with Clifton College star Ioan Llloyd - will join the integrated Bears Academy for the first time.

The quartet will have the opportunity to work, learn and build strong relationships with the full senior squad as they push hard to represent the Bears, on and off the field.

Head coach Lam said: “We’ve looked closely at the make-up of our squad and we’re really excited about building on top of the excellent foundation we have worked hard to create this season. There’s been a big focus on retention and ensuring we continue to develop the quality players we already have.

“We know all the players going into years 2 or 3 with our coaching group are far more valuable compared to when they first jumped on the Bristol Bears bus. They can continue to keep driving forward our culture, leadership and the way we want to play the game on and off the field.

“We want a core of guys will be at this club for a long, long time, making over 200 appearances for Bristol. Having the likes of Steven Luatua and Chris Vui re-signed and committed to the cause is massive for us, too.

“Recruitment never sleeps and we will continue to keep an eye on any player who could add real value to our group to ensure we stay on track of our vision to “Inspire Our Community Through Rugby Success.”
