Lam delighted to tie down ‘hungry and determined’ Thomas

Head coach Pat Lam has hailed the attitude and hunger of flanker Dan Thomas, after the 24-year-old signed a two-year extension to his current deal at Bristol Rugby.

The Welshman’s new contract extends his Ashton Gate stay until at least 2021 – and Lam says the club is delighted to tie him down.

“We’re extremely pleased,” said Lam. “He’s now got three more seasons after this one at Bristol Rugby.

“He’s a quality player with so much upside. He’s got a great attitude, he’s obviously got a lot of talent – but more than that, he’s coachable, he’s hungry, and he’s determined to be the best that he can.

“That’s what we want – hence the reason we extended early. We know the supporters will be happy and we’re certainly happy ourselves.

“I think there’s a lot to come (from Thomas) – but there’s a lot to come from a lot of players if they’re hungry and they want to learn. It’s not just the age factor, it’s more around the ambition and the competitive edge to push yourself through.

“The exciting thing for us is that Dan is still only 24 and has all the ingredients to be a world class player. He is eager to learn and understands that, if we earn promotion, he will need to keep developing his game to continue to make an impact in the Premiership.”
