Alapati Leiua scored a fourth minute try and Tusi Pisi kicked seven points, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Samoa from slipping to a 19-17 defeat to Wales in rain-soaked Apia.
Leiua crossed after fine build-up work from Bristol teammates Tusi Pisi and David Lemi, with the latter collecting Pisi’s cross-kick before the ball was spread back to Leiua on the right wing.
A further score from Maatulimanu Leiataua saw Samoa lead with just minutes to go, but wing Steff Evans - who scored in either half - came up with the game's vital moment as he dived over in the corner late in proceedings.
