Lemi to depart club at the end of the season

David Lemi will depart Bristol Rugby at the end of the season, having made 139 appearances.

The club’s record try-scorer – who has touched down 70 times – is regarded as one of the finest players to don the jersey in the professional era.

The Samoa international captain with 54 outings for his country, Lemi has earned huge respect from supporters and teammates over two spells at Bristol that spanned ten years.

“David [Lemi] is a fine example of what young players can achieve through perseverance and professionalism. He is a true leader and an iconic figure for Bristol Rugby supporters for his efforts on and off the field.

Head coach Pat Lam

“During my time with the club so far, David has been a positive influence on the younger players and everybody involved with Bristol looks up to him and holds him in high regard," said head coach Pat Lam.

“David departs with our deepest appreciation for what he has achieved; a former skipper of the club, the record try scorer and a fantastic ambassador for the sport. We wish him every success going forward.”

The 36 year-old has played a key supporting role during the 2017/18 season, making eight appearances and scoring five tries, including an impressive hat-trick at Mennaye Field.

David Lemi touches down against London Scottish (JMP UK).

He said: “To have had the privilege of representing Bristol Rugby and my family has been an honour. There have been many highs and lows, but the character and passion of the supporters has always been there and I am hugely grateful for the support they have shown me.

“I’ve enjoyed working with Pat [Lam] and the coaching team and I am proud to be leaving with the club in possibly its strongest position in our history. I will continue to be a supporter of Bristol Rugby once I leave, but before then, my aim is to ensure that we finish the job this season.”
