'Let's raise the bar’ - Heenan

Jake Heenan has urged Bristol Bears to build on the positives from last weekend’s bonus-point victory over Zebre when they travel to Parma for the return fixture on Saturday.

Heenan was a second-half replacement as Bristol ran in seven tries to record a 43-22 victory at Ashton Gate, but the former Connacht back-row is expecting a much tougher challenge on Italian soil.

“I think you’ll see a much-improved Zebre this weekend,” said Heenan. “They can be a tough team to play away from home.

“But I think you’ll see the same sort of rugby – wanting to play with the ball, wanting to attack. I think they were probably a bit loose on the weekend and we would be very naive to expect that over there.

“They will look after the ball a bit better, they will be a bit more physical, and they’ll still bring that element of wanting to play and wanting to run the ball.”

And despite last weekend’s comprehensive win, Heenan insists Bristol have ‘more to give’ against a Zebre side whose threats will be ‘amplified’ at Stadio Lanfranchi.

“We created some good try-scoring opportunities on the weekend, so we need to stick on the ball and execute those chances a bit better and keep the pressure on them for longer periods of time."

“We still have a bit more to give there - I think we were a bit loose as well (last Saturday).

“There is always the danger in those games that you get a bit loose yourself, so I think we need to look after the ball a bit better.

“We were 30-points up and they still looked like they wanted to come back into the game, so that’s the challenge over there.

“That’s going to be amplified and they are not going to go away.”
