Hartpury 38-20 Richmond

James Dun started for Hartpury in their six-try, bonus-point victory over Richmond at the Alpas Arena on Saturday.

Hartpury had the better of the early exchanges and took the lead when Toby Venner took a quick-tap penalty to race clear

Sam Smith then doubled the lead, finishing strongly from just outside the 22, before Richmond hooker James Hadfield drove over to get the visitors on the board.

Ben Foley went over from 35 metres out to give Hartpury a 19-8 lead at the break, after James Williams landed his second successful conversion.

The heavy Richmond pack then rumbled over for their second try, before Hartpury again restored the buffer on the hour when, after attacking from turnover ball, a series of assaults on the Richmond line ended with Robbie Smith finishing in the corner.

More Hartpury indiscipline gave Richmond the opportunity for another driven try – finished by Bright – after 65 minutes, but that was as close as Richmond were to get.

With 12 minutes remaining and Hartpury pushing close after a Josh Gray charge-down, veteran back rower Bright got his marching orders after being offside in the red zone and things got even worse for the visitors after the resulting lineout, with a further yellow card for replacement hooker Michael Perks.

With Hartpury now in control, Robbie Smith ghosted through from the 22 after Ben Foley had cleverly delayed his pass, to seal a commanding win for the hosts.

Thompson stars as Clifton edge Worthing

Worthing Raiders 23-24 Clifton

Aaron Thompson made his second successive start for Clifton as they fought back to beat Worthing Raiders on Saturday.

The Station Road side trailed 11-0 early in the second-half, but fought back with three quick-fire tries to edge in front.

A penalty gave them an eight-point cushion late on, meaning that the hosts' third try of the afternoon wasn't enough to prevent Clifton from leaving with four league points in the bag.
