Somerset County Cup
Old Reds 17-30 Hornets

Tom Sims started in the front row for Hornets in their Somerset Cup victory over Old Reds on Sunday.

In a hard-fought cup clash, Reds grabbed the first try of the afternoon to edge into an 14-6 lead, before Tom Cooksey's try and Charlie Carter's conversion made it a one-point game.

A third Reds' penalty made it 17-13, but Kieran Ward's try edged Hornets in front before Carter's jinking score put the visitors in the driving seat.

It was a lead they would not relinquish, with Carter's late penalty ensuring their route into the next round.

Defeat for Dings at Leicester Lions

National Two South
Leicester Lions 32-15 Dings Crusaders

Academy pair, Andrew Turner and Harry Rowson both featured in Dings' defeat at Leicester Lions on Saturday.

The hosts put Dings under pressure from the start with winger Jake Sterland bagging a try, converted by Ben Young.

Lions reapplied the pressure and fly-half Young cut through the centre to score the second try, which he converted with only seven-minutes gone. Dings started to come back into the game and winger Ian Clark out-paced the Lions defence to go over for an unconverted try in the corner to close the gap.

Lions reimposed their dominance with winger Devon Constant dashing along the wing with a smart slipped pass to Alex Wilcockson, who glided over. Some careless play led to Lions giving away a penalty, and Dings fly-half Tom Price converted the three-pointer to make it 19-8 at half-time.

Dings started the second-half by putting Lions under pressure with some solid forward mauls. In the 48th minute, Olly Bilton drove over for a Dings try. Price converted to cut the gap to 19-15, but that's as good as it got for the visitors.

A quickly-taken penalty by lions allowed Nick Cairns to weave through for a try. Sterland quickly added his second try when he outran the defence. Jack Vernum added a penalty late on to seal the deal for Lions.

Dings Crusaders: 15 Tom Hargan; 14 Ian Clark, 13 Matty Smith, 12 Luke Arscott, 11 Tommy Foot, 10 Tom Price, 9 Tom Knight; 1 Drew Turner, 2 Tommy Gollop, 3 Nick English, 4 Olly Bilton, 5 Danny Hodge, 6 Alex Bilton, 7 Josh Wood, 8 Jake Holcombe (capt).
