Luatua earns Barbarians call-up ahead of All Blacks clash

Steven Luatua will represent the Barbarians against the New Zealand All Blacks on Saturday, 4 November (3pm KO).

The Bristol back-rower is set to face his country as part of a star-studded Barbarian outfit at Twickenham Stadium.

The fixture – in celebration of the NZRU’s 125th anniversary – renews one of rugby’s most historic rivalries with ten meetings between the teams since 1954.

Head Coach Pat Lam said: “It’s great for Steve - and for Bristol Rugby - that he has been invited to play in a game of such magnitude. Steve is an influential leader and has made a huge impact at the club since his arrival.

“To see Steve wear the blue, white and red club socks at Twickenham will be fantastic and we know he will be a positive ambassador for Bristol Rugby Club.”

Luatua links up with a Baa-Baas squad coached by former Australia head coach Robbie Deans, plus England World Cup winner Will Greenwood and the Crusaders head coach Scott Robertson.

“To have the opportunity to play against the All Blacks at Twickenham is a really exciting prospect."

He added: “I have had the privilege of representing the Barbarians on several occasions, but to have the opportunity to play against the All Blacks at Twickenham is a really exciting prospect.

“I’m grateful to Pat [Lam] and the club for agreeing to releasing me for the fixture and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the squad and pulling on the black and white jersey.”
