Men's end of season awards 2021/22: who won what?

Bristol Bears men held their End of Season Awards dinner at Ashton Gate on Sunday evening, with Joe Joyce's outstanding campaign recognised with three awards.

U18 PLAYER OF THE SEASON

In what was a record-breaking and title winning campaign for Bears Men's U18s, Paddy Pearce was a consistent standout performer in the second row.

The Colston's School pupil, who has recently signed professional terms with the club, received an England U18 call-up to cap a hugely impressive season.

ACADEMY PLAYER OF THE SEASON

Loose head prop Tom Sims has enjoyed huge development in his game during the 2021/22 season, culminating in his senior debut for the club against Gloucester in the Premiership Cup and a call-up to the England U19 squad.

SUPPORTERS CLUB PLAYER OF THE SEASON

The first of three awards on the night, Joe Joyce was the overwhelming winner from the Supporters Club's end of season vote. The Bristolian lock has enjoyed a sensational season at his hometown club.

BACK OF THE SEASON

In his final season with the Bears, Alapati Leiua has been quite magnificent, appearing across the backline to devastating effect. The Samoan brought up a century of appearances for the Bears during the 2021/22 campaign and scored six tries.

FORWARD OF THE SEASON

Joyce played 1412 minutes across 21 games in the Gallagher Premiership this season, also stepping up to take on the captaincy in the absence of Steven Luatua.

The second row has taken his game to another level in 2021/22, carrying powerfully in the wide channels and bossing the lineout.

TRY OF THE SEASON

In a devastating 15 minute period, the Bears cut loose against Scarlets in the Heineken Champions Cup in late January, with this Semi Radradra try putting the icing on a bonus-point shaped cake.

Fitz Harding started the move with a break from inside his own 22 before collecting a second touch from Andy Uren. The scrum-half's sweeping pass found Radradra and the Fijian traded passes with Siva Naulago before diving over for an unbelievable try.

TEAM MAN OF THE SEASON

This award is voted for by the players and recognises contributions on and off the field, including to team culture and the work of Bristol Bears Community Foundation.

Joe Joyce epitomises all of the above, leading from the front on and off the field and inspiring the community in which he grew up.

PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE SEASON

From Academy Player of the Season to Players' Player in the space of 12 months - Fitz Harding is going place, and fast.

The versatile back row scooped the evening's showpiece award after a quite superb season for the Bears.
