Mouneimne hails Bears' focus ahead of season restart

First impressions are important to Omar Mouneimne, and the Bears new Defence Coach hailed the focus and attention to detail of his new squad ahead of the Gallagher Premiership’s return next month.

Great expectations

The hugely experienced coach joined Pat Lam’s team at the beginning of July, having previously spent four years at Worcester Warriors, as well as stints with South Africa Sevens, the Stormers, Italy, Edinburgh, Stade Francais and Lyon.

And Mouneimne says he has enjoyed the first few weeks at his new club.

“I’m settling in really nicely. They are a great bunch of lads and obviously coming to this training facility never hurts.

“It makes you extremely enthusiastic, but I also think that you feel the gravity of the burden, because you’ve got to deliver – you’re not going to be given a fancy setup like this without having to deliver. So, very cognisant of how blessed we are and very cognisant of how much we’ve got to perform.”

Minor tweaks

“These guys are very responsive, so they are used to taking in information and executing, and they are very accountable, which helps every coach. So, for me, I’m going to come in now at this point to tweak what I can in this short window. You don’t want to make sweeping changes – just make some adjustments based on some of the footage I’ve seen and some of the trends I’ve seen.”

Focused and organised

“They are a really well organised team. Pat has done an incredible job, so lots of clarity, lots of attention to detail - it makes it much easier. When the guys are focused like that and they are accountable, life is easy.

Everybody seems to be on the same page, no matter what it is – whether it’s team meetings, drills, clarity on a map or some sort of strategic part of the game, everyone is on the same page. Really well focused and really well organised.”
