The Academy Under 16 season comes to a climax with the National five-day programme at Wellington College in Berkshire, which starts on Monday, 10 April.
The camp includes an inter-academy festival on Tuesday 11 April, followed by various team and individual skills clinics in addition to life-style seminars.
Bristol Rugby Academy has been boosted by the inclusion of half of Somerset in its catchment area, and, although Bath Rugby, the previous ‘tenants’ have retained players from that area, Somerset are strongly represented in the squad.
King’s College Taunton boasts four boys in the squad, with others coming from Haygrove, Sidcot, Wells Blue, Wellington, Churchill and Priory.
“The inclusion of these boys has strengthened the squad considerably,” said Junior Academy Manager, Gary Townsend. “These are talented boys who have bought into what we’re trying to achieve at Bristol.”
The boys have been involved in the new PDG centre at Bridgwater under the gaze of experienced coaches Keith Leaker and Mark Hawkes.
“We’re very fortunate to have thee guys involved – Keith has been working with Bristol Academy for several years, and has brought that perspective with him, whilst Mark is a stalwart of Somerset rugby, and has added that flavour to the programme, which has provided a really positive blend,” added Townsend.
