Clara Nielson has urged her Bristol Bears Women side to feed off the energy from home crowd in this weekend’s fixture against Firwood Waterloo as the Bears look to kickstart 2020 with a victory.
Prior to the winter break the Bears struggled for form in a frustrating run of fixtures for Kim Oliver’s side, but the hooker believes that the time spent away from the rugby pitch over the festive period will have helped the group to recharge and refocus before they return to action at Shaftesbury Park this weekend.
“It’s probably what everyone needed. A couple of weeks away give people time to get refocussed and get some energy back and bring it back into what is a big game this week, said Nielson.
“It’s been quite a few weeks since we have been at home. We love it here at Dings, we think we have a good home advantage here in front of a home crowd that really get behind us, so the girls are really looking forward to getting back out and putting in a good performance.
“It’s always nice to have support and I think the crowds are steadily growing game on game, which is really good to see. I think it’s something we can pick up on and give us energy and drive our performance.
“We’re not exactly where we need to be in the table right now and results haven’t gone our way the last few games, but it’s a New Year and we’re looking forward to being at home and starting the year as we mean to go on.
“We’ve shown in all of our games that we’ve got what we need to compete at the top in this league, but we’ve shown it in bits and we’re yet to put in that eighty minute performance, but I definitely feel like it’s coming.
“This weekend will be the perfect opportunity for us to put in that eighty minute performance and pick up some points at home.”
Bristol Bears Women take on Firwood Waterloo on Saturday, January 11th (12pm) last Shaftesbury Park and supporters can purchase tickets here.
