Number Crunch: Derby day

All of the key player, team and form statistics ahead of the Gallagher Premiership clash with Bath at The Recreation Ground.

  • Bath Rugby beat Newcastle at Kingston Park on Saturday their first away win in the competition in almost twelve months. Bath have won two of their last three home games at the Recreation Ground in Premiership Rugby only slipping up to table-topping Leicester in Round 17.
  • Bristol Bears ended a two-game losing streak with their 31-19 home win over Wasps on Friday. The Bears have won just once away from home in Gallagher Premiership Rugby this season: 45-33 at London Irish on 30 October.
  • Bristol have won their last five fixtures against Bath since Bath’s 26-19 win at Twickenham in ‘The Clash’ in April 2019. The Bears have won on their last two visits to the Rec, their best sequence there in competition rugby.

  • Bath Rugby have been defeated by Bristol Bears in each of their last five Premiership meetings, including their last two home games against them; however, Bath Rugby have led at half-time in their two most recent encounters with Bristol Bears.
  • Defeat against Bristol Bears would be Bath Rugby’s seventh home loss of the season, more than they’ve had in any prior Premiership season.
  • After losing their first 10 matches of the season, Bath Rugby have gone on to win three of their last six; however, their largest winning margin this term is just five points, which they achieved last weekend against Newcastle Falcons.
  • Bristol Bears are currently on a run of three straight defeats away from home in the Premiership; however, they have not lost four in a row since a run of 12 defeats between January 2017 and February 2019.
  • No teams have made fewer kicks from open play in this season’s Premiership than Bath Rugby (328) and Bristol Bears (341); Bath Rugby’s 295 kicking meters last weekend were also a competition low for the last round of fixtures.
  • The 13 dominant tackles made by Bristol Bears against Wasps last weekend was the joint-third highest total for a team in a Premiership game this season; Bristol Bears lead the charts for dominant tackles completed this season (137).
  • Three of the four players to have completed more than 10 dominant tackles in the Premiership this season play for Bristol Bears; Fitz Harding (11), Daniel Thomas (11) and Sam Jeffries (12).
  • Bristol Bears hooker Harry Thacker made 10/10 lineout throws in Round 18 of the Premiership, no other player attempted as many without missing at least one in last weekend’s round of fixtures; overall, he has a 94% success rate this season (80/85), of hookers to attempt 30+ throws only Niall Annett (96%) and Gabriel Oghre (95%) have a better rate.
