Number Crunch: Tackling the Tigers

All of the key player, team and form statistics ahead of the Gallagher Premiership round 24 clash with Leicester Tigers at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.


  • Leicester Tigers have lost just two of their last eight Premiership Rugby fixtures, both away from home, at Saracens in Round 19 and at Harlequins in Round 23. The Tigers have won their last fifteen matches at Mattioli Woods Welford Road in all competitions since today’s opponents, Bristol, beat them there last June. 
  • Bristol Bears home victory against Gloucester by a solitary point ended a four-game losing run in Gallagher Premiership Rugby. The Bears only away win in Premiership Rugby this season was 45-33 against London Irish on 30 October. 
  • Leicester beat Bristol 28-26 at Ashton Gate on Boxing Day and have not achieved a Premiership Rugby season’s double over the Bears since 2016/17. Bristol beat Leicester 26-23 on their most recent visit to Welford Road and have not achieved back-to-back wins at the venue since 1964-65. 
  • Leicester Tigers won the reverse of this fixture earlier in the season (28-26 in Round 11) after losing five of their previous six games against Bristol Bears in the Premiership (W1); Bears have won two of their last three games away games against Leicester (L1), after losing all 11 of their previous league games at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.
  • Leicester Tigers lost their most recent Premiership match (20-26 v Harlequins in Round 23) after winning six from seven previously; however, they have only lost back-to-back matches on one occasion in the league this season.
  • Leicester Tigers have won all 10 of their home matches so far in this season’s Premiership, with their last five victories each coming by margins of 12 points or greater; should they defeat Bristol Bears, it will be the first time that they have won 11 regular season home games since the 2001/2002 campaign.

  • Bristol Bears won their most recent Premiership match (29-28 v Gloucester Rugby in Round 23) after winning just one of their previous seven; four of their last five matches have been decided by margins of fewer than 10 points.
  • Bristol Bears are currently on a run of six straight Premiership defeats away from home; they haven’t lost more consecutive matches on the road since a run of 12 straight defeats between January 2017 and February 2019.
  • Leicester Tigers have attempted more kicks from open play than any other side in this season’s Premiership (710); on the other hand, only Bath Rugby (413) have attempted fewer kicks this term than Bristol Bears (441).
  • No side has scored more points in the opening 20 minutes of games in this season’s Premiership than Bristol Bears (172) or Leicester Tigers (153); Leicester Tigers have also conceded fewer points in the first quarter of games than any other team this term (84).
  • Bristol Bears completed more passes than any other side in the last round of Premiership fixtures (236); they also rank third for total passes made this term (3,440).
  • George Ford is one of just three players to average 10+ points per game in the Premiership this season (10.8, also Owen Farrell and Dan Biggar); his 185 kicks from open play is also the highest total of any fly-half in the league this term (3rd most overall).
  • No player made more carries in the last round of Premiership fixtures than Bristol Bears trio Fitz Harding (15), Toby Fricker (13) and Sam Jeffries (13); additionally, only Stuart Hogg (130m) ran for more meters last time out than Toby Fricker (110m).
