O'Conor relishing physical Sharks encounter

Piers O’Conor says the Bears are primed for a huge physical challenge at the AJ Bell Stadium on Saturday, as they look to get back to winning ways against Sale Sharks.

Raring to go

In a second versus third clash in the Gallagher Premiership, Pat Lam’s men travel to the north west in search of an 11th league win of the season – and O’Conor, who made a try-scoring return from injury in the defeat to Exeter Chiefs, says the Bears must front up on Saturday.

“It’s never nice to miss any games, so I was raring to go and hope I can build on that now. There’s still plenty of rugby left to play this season and we’ve still got it all to play for, so I’m just pleased to be back in action again.

“It was pretty disappointing to lose a home game (against Exeter Chiefs) for the first time in a while.

Bouncing back

“We definitely felt like we had a decent shot there, we let ourselves down a little bit in the first half but it’s an opportunity for us to test ourselves and bounce back this weekend against Sale, who we know will put out a strong side.

“They’ve got big ball carriers, we know they’ll be coming route one defensively and in attack, so I think fronting up this weekend is going to be a big thing and getting ready for a good, physical challenge.

“Everyone is on a short turnaround, so it’s about who recovers faster and who learns their detail faster.”
