Oliver looking for side to build on positives

Kim Oliver has urged her side to kick on from last week’s performance as they take on Wasps Ladies at Shaftesbury Park tomorrow afternoon (2pm).

Bears Women came up short in their comeback against Loughborough last weekend and the Head Coach believes her side are in for another tough challenge against the London-based outfit.

“I was really proud of the effort of the group last week. They really dug in and managed to keep themselves in the game after going two tries down early, that allowed us to score a great try at the end and come away with a point from the game,” said Oliver.

“Things didn’t quite go as we hoped, and the weather played a big part in that. We’ve got to make sure we adapt and tighten things up when we need to and not force it in certain areas of the pitch.

“I was really impressed with the players that came into the matchday squad last week. Everyone right the way through the team stood up to the challenge for the large part and put their bodies on the line.

“This weekend presents that group and some others an opportunity to give me some selection headaches moving forward and I’m looking forward to seeing how we perform on Saturday.

“Our defence has been a big area that we have worked on throughout pre-season. We’ve put a lot of time and focus on our attitude in defence and work rate to continually get off the line and make dominant hits, and I would like to see us carry that into this weekend’s game with Wasps.

“Wasps are a great side, who have competed towards the top end of the league for the last three seasons and I have no doubt it will be another tough contest this weekend.

“They’ve recruited well and have brought in some talented players, especially from the sevens circuit and they’ll pose us a new challenge but one I’m confident our group can deal with if we get our processes right.”
