Phillips vows to ‘enjoy every moment’ of World Cup campaign

Bristol Ladies hooker Carys Phillips has vowed to ‘enjoy every moment’ after being selected in the Wales squad for the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

For Phillips, who earned her first cap as a second half replacement against Ireland in the opening round of the 2013 Six Nations, it’s a second World Cup campaign – and the 24-year-old says the mood in the Wales camp is positive.

“Preparations have been going very well,” she said.

“We've had a few warm up games leading up to the tournament which has put us in a good place knowing exactly what we need to fine tune in the next few weeks leading into the World Cup.

“I will be unbelievably proud to represent Wales in my second World Cup. It's always a huge honour to put on the jersey and run out alongside your best friends.”

Phillips, who has 30 caps for her country, has vowed to ‘take each game as it comes’ when the tournament gets under way on August 9th and says taking the field with her club teammates will be a special feeling.

“What makes this World Cup special is the fact that we can go from being teammates at Bristol, to teammates on the biggest world stage,” she said.

“Being able to play alongside some of your best mates at club is amazing, let alone at a World Cup.”
