Piutau And Lam Commit To Bristol Rugby

Siale Piutau will join Bristol Rugby on a permanent basis ahead of the new campaign, having impressed since joining the Club in January 2017.

The Tongan international captain – who has twenty-four caps to his name – has made four appearances since his arrival from Yamaha Jubilo.

Meanwhile, Club Captain Jack Lam has extended his contract with Bristol Rugby until 2019.

The Samoan back rower – a terrace favourite – joined the Club in 2014, making 46 appearances so far.

“The importance of these two guys staying with us cannot be underestimated. They’re both current internationals who were wanted by a host of Premiership clubs,” Head Coach Mark Tainton told bristolrugby.co.uk.

“Siale has been a formidable presence for us in the midfield, he’s shown real leadership and maturity in our backline.

“Jack’s decision to stay with the Club, irrespective of what league we are in, is massive for us. He’s a figurehead of what we are trying to achieve here and always leads by example when he takes to the field.

“On their day, both players are some of the most effective in the league in their respective positions and we’re delighted that they will remain part of our journey.”

Lam said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with Bristol Rugby so far and there is plenty to look forward to in the future. I’ve made the decision to stay here because there is unfinished business and I want to help establish us in the top flight – that’s what I was brought here to do. Throughout the highs and the lows, the spirit within the Club has always been strong and the supporters have continued to stick with us.”

SIGNED: Jack Lam takes on the Gloucester defence at Ashton Gate (JMP UK).

Piutau added: “In the short time I have been in Bristol, I have been amazed by the passion for rugby in the city. It’s a great place for me and my family to be. On the field, we have a big challenge ahead and I’m excited about the plans that Pat [Lam] and his coaches are putting in place for next season."
