Siale Piutau took the Bristol Bears bragging rights as his Tonga side beat Chris Vui’s Samoa 28-18 in their Pacific Nations Cup clash in Suva, Fiji.
Tonga half-back Sonatane Takulua orchestrated his side's victory, contributing 13 points with the boot and setting up a second-half try to replacement winger Penikolo Latu.
Viliame Lolohea and former NRL player Cooper Vuna also scored first half tries for the Tongans, who were beaten 16-15 by Georgia last week.
Samoans crossed through Ed Fidow and Melani Matavao, as Tonga were shown three yellow cards in the final 15 minutes, but Piutau’s side held on for victory.
Chris Vui, Jack Lam, Alapati Leiua, Tusi Pisi, James Lay and Jordan Lay all featured for Samoa in Suva.
