Piutau eyes Bears response at Ashton Gate

Siale Piutau says Bristol Bears are relishing a return to Ashton Gate and eager to issue an instant response to last weekend’s narrow defeat when Sale Sharks visit BS3 on Friday (7.45pm KO).

Piutau, who made his first appearance for the club since returning from the Rugby World Cup in Japan at The Stoop last weekend, believes home comforts can boost the Bears back to winnings ways.

“It’s awesome to be back. I had a great time with Tonga at the World Cup, but it was good to be back in the mix with the boys last week and it will be great to be back at our home fortress this weekend,” he said.

“Physically I feel in good nick. To be away for more than three months playing international rugby, it definitely helps playing those minutes and being able to transition straight back into the Premiership.

“Being back here in Bristol, a place I call home, with family and loved ones and that definitely helps.

“We love being back at home in front of the Bristol faithful. Our home record has been pretty good recently and we hope that we can get some more great support on Friday, and if we can implement the game plan that we have, hopefully we can do well.

“I was there for the Bath game and the atmosphere was electrifying and to witness it and see the boys get over the line, it’s an awesome experience to be a part of.”

The 34-year-old centre bowed out of international rugby following his third World Cup with Tonga, and says he was grateful for the opportunity to sign off with victory over the USA.

“To make another World Cup, that was always the dream after 2011 and 2015.

“Obviously, I ticked that box and got to play with the boys one last time.

“I’m grateful for that opportunity, and also grateful that I can close that chapter and put everything into this Bears season.”

Pat Lam’s men face Sale under the floodlights on Friday, November 1st (7.45pm KO) with Bears Season Card holders able to bring two friends for £10 each as part of a ‘Mates Rates’ ticket promotion.

Meanwhile, we have a special ticket offer for Bristol Bears Members who can take advantage of a £10 ticket in the Dolman wings or South Stand.*

Season Card holders have been sent an email with a single-use unique code to pass to friends or family to reduce the price of two Bears v Sale Sharks tickets to £10 each.

Please note that this cannot be used by a Bears Season Card holder and must be used by the friend/family member attending the game.
