Piutau proud of dogged Bears

Charles Piutau praised the dogged nature of the Bears' dramatic victory over Saracens, as they repelled a late surge from the reigning champions to earn sixth straight win in the Gallagher Premiership.

The Bears bounced back from Luke Morahan's sensational disallowed effort to earn a 76th-minute penalty try - and full back Piutau praised his side for 'staying in the moment.'

'We adapted to the conditions'

"It was never going to be easy, coming up against such a class side, but I'm very proud of the boys' efforts today, just to stick in there and trust our process and the game plan that we've been training for all week, and we pulled it off," he said.

"We would have loved for it to be dry and play a bit more, but it's about adapting to the weather and adapting our plan, and the boys showed that today.

"We try to take it moment by moment, and sometimes it can be frustrating and other times you're celebrating. There's always another opportunity and I think the boys did well to stay in the moment and stay focused on the next job. It was unlucky for Moz (Luke Morahan) - probably one of the greatest tries never to be awarded.

Making the fans proud

"For all of us, playing the games is the best thing. It's what we love to do and after that long break, it was just nice to get back out there on the field, be out there with the guys after all of the hard work we put in during the break.

"We talked about trying to recreate our own atmosphere and it's funny how loud you can hear each other's voices in an empty stadium. But I guess, our fans were supporting us through the television and hopefully we made them proud."
