Premiership Rugby Cup opponents revealed

Bristol Bears are set to face local rivals Gloucester in the inaugural Premiership Rugby Cup in 2018/19.

The competition – previously known as the Anglo-Welsh Cup - involves the 12 Gallagher Premiership Rugby clubs in a format including a new Derby Day round, in which Bristol will take on Exeter Chiefs.

With total prize money of more than half a million pounds, the new competition will be played over four pool rounds, as well as a semi-finals and Final.

Pat Lam’s side - who face the Cherry & Whites in front of the BT Sport HD cameras at Ashton Gate on Friday, November 2nd (7.45pm KO) – also face Wasps and Northampton Saints in Pool 3.

2018/19 Premiership Rugby Cup fixtures:

R1: Northampton (a) – Saturday, October 27th (2pm)

R2: Gloucester (h) – Friday, November 2nd (7.45pm KO)

R3: Wasps (a) – Sunday, November 11th (3pm)

R4 (Derby Day): Exeter (h) – Saturday, January 26th (3pm KO)


Involving the 12 Gallagher Premiership Rugby clubs, and with total prize money of more than half a million pounds, the Premiership Rugby Cup will be played over four pool rounds, including the Derby Day weekend, semi-finals and Final.

The first weekend sees two matches live on BT Sport with Saracens hosting Leicester Tigers on Saturday 27th and Exeter Chiefs making the trip to Newcastle Falcons the next day.

The Premiership Rugby Cup will comprise three pools of four teams each and will kick off with the first three pool rounds starting on the last weekend of October and the last round in the New Year.

The New Year round will see Derby Day clashes for the 12 teams before the Cup moves into the knockout phase with the three pool winners and the best runner up moving into the semi-finals.

The Derby Day round is split over two weekends, ensuring all players receive a mid-season break.
