'Preparation and execution is key' - Nielson

Bristol Bears Women co-captain Clara Nielson believes it is key to go into the autumn break ‘on a high’ and put in a good eighty minute performance against Richmond this weekend.

The Bears head into this weekend's fixture off the back of two consecutive losses, but the hooker insists that mood in the camp is still high as they prepare for round six of the Tyrrells Premier 15s.

“It’s definitely a big game for us this weekend against Richmond, especially after a couple of defeats but mood in the camp is still really good and we have got confidence in ourselves, so we’re looking forward to the Richmond game, said Nielson.

“We love playing at home and we definitely feel as though Shaftesbury Park is our home now.

“We get a good crowd every week and everyone loves the atmosphere we have when we play at home and hopefully that’ll be an advantage for us.

This weekend's fixture will bring an end to the first part of the season and Kim Oliver’s side will be looking to secure victory as they will have to wait until December 1st for their next bite of the cherry.

“This is our last game until December, so it’s good chance for us to go into the break on a high and keep our confidence up as we go into a long period without rugby.

“The break will give us time to reflect and then work on what we’ve learnt about ourselves throughout the first six games and that is always made easier off the back of a win.”

Nielson and co will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the last time the two sides met, when Richmond fought from behind to claim a 24-22 victory, and the front rower insist an eighty minute performance will be required to get the better of their opponents.

“It's never an easy game against Richmond, we know that first hand from last season when they came back and beat us at their place.

“We’re well aware of their threats and what they offer, so it’s about us making sure we have a good week of preparation in training and then executing our game plan on Saturday afternoon.”

Bristol Bears Women take on Richmond Women on Saturday, October 26th (12pm) at Shaftesbury Park and supporters can purchased their tickets here.
