'Raving Fan of the Month' winners announced

Bristol Bears is proud to announce the ‘Raving Fan Of The Month’ for March, in association with the club’s principal partner, Ravenscroft.

Every month until the end of the 2020/21 season, we’ll be picking a standout Bears supporter to win a signed ball from the first team squad and a £100 voucher to spend in the Bristol Sport store.

This month, we asked fans to tell us – in no more than 100 words – about their first memory of watching Bristol, and the winners are as follows:

Winner: Mike Barrow

Mike's Grandfather started taking him to the Memorial Ground when he was about eight - nearly 70 years ago. His name was Tom Barrow and he edited the programme between the wars. The fixture list then included teams like Richmond, Rosslyn Park and of course the local 'enemies' across the water from Cardiff and Newport. Players that Mike recalls are Jack Gregory - also an international sprinter - John Blake, John Broad, Gordon Cripps, Keith Smith and Mike Ellery and at full back Bob Challis, who played locally for the Old Cathedralians when Mike's Dad, Len was secretary.

Runner up: Robert Morris

Robert's first game was with his father and he watched Bristol Rugby beat Abertillery. The game took place in the 70’s and his next major memory was with his father at the JPS final in 1983. Robert had been going on and off for years and now is a season ticket holder with my daughter. His best modern memory with his father was treating him to hospitality when they moved to Ashton Gate - that was their last game together. Robert's father often commented on how far the club had come, how much better it was and how he was looked after.

Email fanofthemonth@bristol-sport.co.uk with your story and picture and you could be in with a chance to win these great prizes.
