Pat Lam has ruled out any complacency when Bristol Rugby travel to London Scottish in the Greene King IPA Championship on Saturday (3pm KO).
Bristol moved thirteen points clear at the top of the table after an away-day win over Ealing, but the head coach insists that nothing has been achieved yet.
“Everybody will be looking at permutations of results and tallying up the wins column, but nothing has changed in our mentality. It was another game for us; five points on offer which we got. Now, we’re onto the next one,” said Lam.
“Each game there are five points up for grabs and that’s what we are focused on. We’ve managed to achieve that in all but two games this season. Saturday presents another challenge in London and another opportunity for us to keep moving towards our main goal.”
“It’s up to us to ensure that our defence and our structures come through. The culture is getting better and better – it’s like a marriage, if you don’t keep working on it, it’ll end."
London Scottish - who are placed eleventh in the league – scored four tries at Ashton Gate in October, showing signs of their attacking potential.
Lam added: “We respect every opposition and it’s clear that Scottish can play. It’s up to us to ensure that our defence and our structures come through. The culture is getting better and better – it’s like a marriage, if you don’t keep working on it, it’ll end.
“The key this week has been managing the group and getting the right intensity levels. I’ve been really pleased with the response. There’s a good feeling in the group, but also a real focus to ensure we are on the job.
“When you set a target and a culture that strives to improve everybody, the year goes pretty quickly, so we’re enjoying every day.”
