Red Roses come out on top in Le Crunch

England Women produced a stunning comeback to topple France 20-18 in round three of the 2019 Women’s Super Series in San Diego.

What Happened?

Bristol Bears Women’s Sarah Bern and Amber Reed started for the Red Roses in their toughest test yet in the Super Series.

France came out of the blocks at a blistering pace and crossed in under a minute when Cyrielle Banet collected a crossfield kick to dot down over the whitewash.

However, the Red Roses responded immediately and went close through Reed, who was held up over the line before Kelly Smith touched down off the back of the resulting five metre scrum to level the scores.

Caroline Boujard’s darting run restored France’s lead, with Jessy Tremouliere converting and then the French full back, and current world player of the year, knocked over two penalties for a 5-18 half-time advantage.

England came out firing In the second half and pulled a try back on the fifty minute mark as Emily Scarratt collected Zoe Harrison’s crossfield kick to score.

That combination would strike yet again to bring the Red Roses within one point of the French, Scarratt rose highest over the line to collect another Harrison kick and bring England within touching distance of their opponents.

It would be the boot of Scarratt that would land the killer blow as England piled on the pressure and forced a penalty which was converted by the centre and the Red Roses completed their stunning comeback
