Amber Reed is eager to see how the Bristol Bears Women squad develops over the coming season after showing glimpses of their bright potential.
Reed opened the Bears account for the game and 20/21 season with a spectacular solo score following an early Exeter Chiefs score.
She credits the hard work put in at training with teammate Elinor Snowsill for the superb score.
“That is hours of practice on the training paddock,” said Reed.
“I’ve got to give Snowy credit, she put it right on the money so I’ll let her off for the first one she put down the middle. I was surprised I got to the try-line and I’m glad I’ve got long arms!”
"Hopefully the Bears can respond quickly after going behind early."@avreed12: "Hold my Thatchers..." 😉

“It was a quick game with the new law changes. I’m proud of the girls because they had to dig deep and there were some really positive things in attack and defence to take into next week, but we know there are a few little things to work on.
“We haven’t had the best run-in to this game, but everyone has worked hard to make sure we’re in the best possible position for today. We were all getting the details in over zoom and having team meetings to make sure we were ready to go.
“There is real talent and excitement within this squad and I can’t wait for us to develop as the season goes on. We knew we weren’t going to hit the ground running first game up, not having much prep, but I’m excited by our potential as a group.
“You can’t ask for much more from the first game, especially travelling away to a new team. We’ve got to give credit to Exeter, they put in a real good shift and they have some strong ball carriers.
“As a group we probably need to work on our game management going into the final moments, but we managed to pull through and get the result, which is the main thing.”
