Report: Bristol Bears U18s 32-21 Harlequins U18s

Bristol Bears Academy U18s battled hard to secure an impressive bonus point victory over a strong Harlequins side.

The home side returned to winning ways in the U18 League as Deago Bailey, Harry Rowan (2) and Callaghan Smith all touched down at Lockleaze RFC to record a 32-21 victory.

In the opening exchanges, Tom Wilstead broke the deadlock with a penalty goal, before Deago Bailey burst through the line and scored under the posts, with the extras being added by Wilstead.

The visitors responded through fly half, Tom Lynagh, who scored and converted his own try. However, Harry Rowson's response soon after pushed Bears 15-7 ahead at the interval.

Harlequins came out fighting in the second half with two quick fire converted tries. But Rowson's second half finish kept the home side in charge and, with time running out, Callaghan Smith secured the bonus point late on, bringing the full time score to 32-21.

Bristol Bears Academy transition coach Sean Marsden was full of praise for his side, saying: "There were some great individual performances amongst a collective effort. It's not always about the winning and losing but for us to come through that game against a really good Harlequins side will give us a lot of confidence going into the last round next weekend against Exeter."
