Report: Bristol Bears Women 12-10 Worcester Warriors Women

Elinor Snowsill held her nerve to kick a 78th minute conversion to hand Bristol Bears the victory against Worcester Warriors on Saturday afternoon.

Dave Ward's side trailed by five points heading into the closing stages at Shaftesbury Park, but Kayleigh Powell scorched over to level the scores, leaving Snowsill to land the all important conversion at the death.

What happened?

An evenly contested opening half left both sides scoreless going in at the break despite spending lengthy periods in their opponents 22. Both struggled to convert possession into points and gain the upper hand.

Coming out for the second half, Worcester broke the deadlock with a driving maul over the line sending Carmen Tremelling over for the try with no conversion.

The Bears tried to answer back but struggled to convert pressure in attack into points in the next few stages of play.

Their chance came when Worcester were penalised with Alycia Washington sent to the sin bin for a deliberate knock on inside her 22. The Bears capitalised with Hannah West adding to her season’s try count with a dot over the line. No conversion kept the scores level.

As Worcester were back up to full contingent, they took their chances once more with a pass out wide to Jade Shekells for the Warriors second try of the game. No conversion kept the scores at 5-10 as play entered its final 10 minutes.

Looking to answer back, Bears powered back up field and worked their way through the phases with a blitzing attack. Running the ball through the line-up a quick take from Kayleigh Powell sent the fullback over the line to level the scores.

Elinor Snowsill with nerves of steel to kick the conversion to take the Bears ahead for the first time with less than two minutes on the clock. The home side dug in deep and held on for the final whistle to clinch the victory.
