Report: Bristol Bears Women 14-36 Gloucester-Hartpury

Bristol Bears Women kicked off the New Year with a derby defeat at the hands of Gloucester-Hartpury in round 13 of the Allianz Premier 15s.

Tries from Sisilia Tuipolotu and Zoe Aldcroft fired the visitors into a commanding lead inside the opening quarter, before a Bears penalty try, from a driving lineout, and Keira Bevan's opportunist score saw Dave Ward's side edge in front at the break.

But Gloucester-Hartpury stormed out of the blocks in the second half, as Rachel Lund, Emma Sing and an Ellie Underwood double sealed victory for the visitors.

What happened?

The game was just four minutes old when Tuipolotu crashed through two tackles to touch down for the opening score - and the visitors doubled their advantage shortly after, when Natasha Hunt swooped on a loose ball to race clear and feed the supporting Aldcroft for a try in the corner.

The Bears hit back and when a lineout drive was halted illegally, the referee awarded a penalty try and sent Aldcroft to the sin bin. With a numerical advantage, Keira Bevan ensured it would be the home side with a half-time lead, as the scrum-half caught the Gloucester defence napping with a quickly-taken penalty to race over. Reed's conversion made it 14-12 at the interval.

But that would be the final Bears score of the afternoon, as Gloucester took charge of the second half with 24 unanswered points. First Lund ghosted through the Bears midfield to touch down, then Sing rounded off another sweeping attack to give the visitors some breathing space.

An Ellie Underwood brace - her 10th and 11th tries of the Premier 15s season - sealed an emphatic win for the Cherry and Whites and condemned Bristol to a first home defeat of the campaign.
