Report: Bristol Bears Women 15-32 Saracens Women

Bears Women slipped to their third defeat of the season at the hands of Tyrrell’s Premier 15s champions, Saracens Women as Kim Oliver’s side lost 15-32 at Shaftesbury Park.

Bristol Bears Women registered two tries in the second half through MacKenzie Carson and Simi Pam but it proved too little, too late as Saracens Women crossed three times in either half to claim the spoils from round eight.

What happened?

Saracens opened the scoring on the ten minute mark, Michaella Roberts was sin-binned for an infringement at the breakdown and London-based side made the most of the numerical advantage as Lisa McKenna crossed in the corner.

Bristol looked to respond and won a penalty deep in the Saracens half which Elinor Snowsill duly dispatched between the uprights to bring the Bears within two.

Midway through the first half, Zoe Harrison took advantage of a gap in the Bears defence to dart through and finish under the posts, before Bryony Cleall powered over from short range to extend the visitors lead on the brink of half-time.

Mackenzie Carson’s score ten minutes into the second half gave Bristol brief hope of a comeback - Elinor Snowsill’s basketball pass found Poppy Leitch, who sent Carson tearing down the right wing to cross in the corner.

However, Saracens quickly quashed the Bears' hopes as captain, Lottie Clapp crossed the whitewash twice in five minutes to push the visitor’s nineteen points clear of the Bears.

Bryony Cleall  then doubled her tally for the afternoon after Saracens won a scrum against the head on the Bears five metre line and the back row powered her way over the line.

Oliver’s side finished with a flourish as the Bears picked up the tempo deep in Saracens territory and slick handling saw Simi Pam cross for her first Tyrrell’s Premier 15s try as she drove her way over the line.
