Report: Bristol Bears Women 27-17 Sale Sharks Women

Bristol Bears Women made it four consecutive wins to the start the season with a bonus-point victory over Sale Sharks on Saturday.

What happened?

The Bears began at lightning pace and opened the scoring through Phoebe Murray, who scythed through the Sharks backline to bag her seventh of the season.

Soon after, Amy Coles would bag a try on her first start of the campaign as she cut a sumptuous line off Murray before pinning her ears back to slide over the chalk.

The driving maul has been a weapon so far this season for the Bears and on the 25th minute it was rolling again, which resulted in Hannah West dropping over the line for her sixth score in four matches.

Sharks wouldn’t go down without a fight and they kept themselves right in the contest when Lauren Perrin pounced on a loose ball to coast over and put pressure back on the Bears.

However, it didn’t take long for the hosts to re-open their three-score buffer. This time Simi Pam powered over from short range.

Following the half-time break Lauren Delany struck for the visitors. She intelligently intercepted just inside her own half before galloping over from 60 metres out.

With the conditions deteriorating the Bears called on their lineout to strike again, with Siwan Lillicrap being the beneficiary this time out.

Sharks would go on to bag a third of the afternoon as Irwin juggled the ball mid-flight crash over and set-up a tense final 20 minutes, but Bears Women would hold on to claim yet another home victory.
