Report: Bristol Ladies 59-7 Firwood Waterloo Ladies

Bristol Ladies kicked off 2018 in style with a convincing 59-7 win over Firwood Waterloo ladies, scoring a total of eleven tries in the game at The Hayfields.

Stand-out performers were Lagi Tuima and Sydney Gregson who performed sublimely under the lights, both securing hat-tricks in the rout, as well as Lillian Stoeger-Goddard who bagged a brace.

The win sees the Bristol Ladies stretch their unbeaten run to four games in the league as well as maintaining their position in the top four of the Tyrrells Premier 15s.

What happened?

Bristol started quickly scoring three times in the opening 15 minutes, twice through Lagi Tuima, who showed great strength and speed in scoring and Sydney Gregson who went over in the corner.

The hosts went on to score twice more in the first half, once through Lillian Stoeger-Goddard who scored a fantastic individual effort racing away down the right-hand wing and the other through Caryl Thomas.

Bristol continued to mount pressure early in the second half as Clara Nielson scored after superb handling from the Bristol back-line.

Sydney Gregson added a second finishing well in the corner off the back of a strong scrum, before Tuima secured her hat-trick, showing brilliant strength to shrug off two tackles and dot down.

Fly-half Lucy Attwood then sniped over from short range, before Gregson secured her hat-trick in style, finishing from 50 metres after brilliant handling from Reed and Tuima.

Stoeger-Goddard rounded off the scoring after a collecting a cross-field kick to then dazzle her opposite number with brilliant footwork and a tremendous turn of pace to get away and score.

Firwood Waterloo eventually got on the board in the last few minutes of the game after being awarded a penalty try.

Player of the match

Lagi Tuima was superb throughout the game, her performance justifies her inclusion in the recent senior England Womens squad.

She was dangerous with ball in hand, offering hard running lines, showing great strength but also brilliant skill as she more often than not managed to pull off some brilliant pieces of handling.

Not only did she lead by example going forward, her defence was impeccable as she fronted up throughout the 80 minutes and did not miss a tackle.
