Bristol secured a bonus point victory against a spirited Rotherham side at Ashton Gate today.

The home side dominated the opening quarter and could have gone ahead through Nick Carpenter, only to concede shortly after when Ben Rath exploited space down the outside channel to fly over.

Jack Tovey couldn’t capitalize on a fantastic opportunity to level proceedings when he spilled the ball over the whitewash, before Tom Varndell went close to touching down when the winger almost claimed his own kick ahead.

Olly Robinson’s converted try – coming from the back of a driving lineout – put Bristol in front for the first time and the hosts could have extended their advantage before the interval only for Gaston Cortes to be held up over the line.

The Argentinian did get on the scoresheet after the restart however, crashing over from close range while Gavin Henson converted expertly from the angle.

In a scrappy encounter, Olly Robinson grabbed his second of the afternoon when the flanker dotted down from a well-worked lineout to move Bristol 21-5 up.

Andy Robinson’s men sealed the bonus point as Jack Tovey rounded off a flowing move to cross the whitewash for a converted try with less than ten minutes remaining.
