Bristol Rugby ended an eleven-year wait for a win at Mennaye Field, overcoming Cornish Pirates 40-10 on Saturday.
Skipper Olly Robinson notched a hat-trick, while Will Cliff, Ellis Genge and Ryan Edwards also crossed in a superb display.
Kieron Hallett nudged Pirates ahead with a penalty goal, but it didn’t take Bristol long to get on the scoresheet through Olly Robinson.
The captain dabbed down from the back of a well-worked maul, while Gavin Henson converted superbly into the wind.
Bristol squandered two opportunities from the driving lineout to extend their advantage, before Joe Atkinson found space in the visitors’ defence to scamper over for a converted try.
Bristol started the second half in superb fashion as Will Cliff collected Olly Robinson’s offload to go in under the posts to push his side 10-21 in front.
Pirates’ replacement prop Marlen Walker was sin-binned after a torrid afternoon in the scrum against Gaston Cortes and the visitors took full advantage.
From the resulting lineout, Olly Robinson capped a memorable afternoon when the back rower burrowed over for his hat-trick try and the bonus point score.
With Bristol in full control, replacement Ellis Genge muscled his way over the whitewash for a converted try, extending the lead to 10-35.
And Ryan Edwards added the gloss to a classy second half display when the winger latched onto Adrian Jarvis’ kick through to touch down and seal a well-earned victory, the first on this ground since 2004.
