What happened?

England international duo Sarah Bern and Abbie Ward grabbed two tries apiece, while Jaz Joyce – boosted by news of a full-time contract with the WRU earlier this week – also bagged a double.

Dave Ward’s side added a further try from Rownita Marston in an entertaining affair at Billingham RFC. Bears opened the scoring against a spirited Sharks outfit within five minutes, as Sarah Bern crashed over from close-range. The tighthead added a quickfire second soon after as the visitors raced into a 12-0 lead within the opening quarter.

DMP hit back midway through the first half to reduce the deficit, but – in a blistering four minute spell – Jaz Joyce crossed twice to stretch Bristol’s advantage. The lightning winger showed why she is one of the most exciting players in the competition, dabbing down for two electric finishes as Bristol’s physical dominance began to pay dividends.

Abbie Ward’s close-range try before the interval put Bears in charge at 29-7. In the second period, the skipper powered over again from a driving lineout, before Rownita Marston added her name to the scoresheet just before the hour mark.

In the final stages, 18 year-old debutant Grace White capped off an impressive afternoon with a late try to seal a bonus point victory on the road
