What happened?

Gloucester-Hartpury opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes as Ellie Underwood finished a slick counter attack to hand the Cherry and Whites the opening score.

Bears tightened up and began to battle with the hosts in the midfield. The visitors gained good field position but would be unable to force a way through.

Underwood doubled Gloucester-Hartpury’s lead in style before the hosts flexed their muscles with Anna Caplice crashing over.

Bears had threatened and they thought they had their route back into the game after an audacious score, which was cruelly chalked off.

Lily Stoeger broke down the right and chipped over the defence for Ella Lovibond to dot down but bizarrely the referee pulled back play for a Bristol Bears penalty.

However, the visitors weren’t to be denied as Gabriella Nigrelli bulldozed her way over the line on debut with the clock in the red to get the Bears off the mark.

Following the break Bears Women managed to close the gap as skipper Lucy Burgess dissected the Gloucester-Hartpury defence to race over under the sticks.

Despite the best efforts of Dave Ward's side, the hosts closed out the game in the final twenty minutes thanks to a brace from replacement Rachel Lund which sealed victory for the Cherry and Whites.
