A second-half fightback wasn't quite enough for a youthful Bristol Bears as they were edged out in a high-scoring thriller at Kingsholm on Saturday.
The Bears trailed 31-10 midway through the second half after tries from Tom Whiteley's try was cancelled out by scores from Jacob Morris, Jack Clement, Ciaran Knight and Seb Atkinson.
But the visitors rallied after the break with James Williams darting over for a try on 59 minutes to go with five successful kicks at goal and a 16-point haul.
Tom Whiteley bagged a second and Fred Davies powered over for his maiden Bears try late on, either side of Seb Blake's try nine minutes from time, as the Bears brought the game back with seven.
But Gloucester held on to take the spoils from a thrilling West Country derby, while the Bears leave Kingsholm with two consolation bonus points in the bag.
Gloucester Rugby: Tries: Morris 1, 49, Clement 21, Knight 32, Atkinson 39, Blake 71. Cons: Barton 21, 32, 39, 71. Yellow: Eite 78
Bristol Bears: Tries: Whiteley 35, 69, Williams 57, Davies 79. Cons: Williams 35, 57, 69, 79. Pens: Williams 7. Yellow: Kerr 42
