Bristol Academy U18s fell to a heavy defeat in the opening fixture of the U18 Academy league, going down 48-0 to Harlequins on Saturday.
In torrential conditions, Bristol struggled to contain a powerful Harlequins pack as they were put to the sword at Surrey Sports Park.
Academy manager Mike Hall said: “We failed to adapt to the conditions and Harlequins adapted very quickly. They were clinical in the way that they finished their opportunities, while we failed to capitalise.
"Ben Tothill worked hard in the back row, but we were nowhere near the standards we have set ourselves as a team.
“Overall, it was an extremely disappointing team performance and one that we need to learn from quickly, as we face a strong Gloucester side in the derby clash next weekend.”
Bristol U18s host Gloucester U18s at the Lockleaze combination ground on Saturday, December 22 (2pm KO).
