Bristol Rugby came from behind to claim a last-ditch bonus point win over Jersey on Saturday.
Nicky Robinson’s eightieth minute try sealed a 27-17 victory at St Peter, while the visitors also added scores from Marco Mama (2) and a penalty try.
Matt Morgan’s sixth minute penalty broke the deadlock, but it was Jersey who crossed the whitewash first with a well-worked try.
Sam Lockwood was on hand to drop over from close range after a driving lineout, although Penberthy missed the target with the conversion attempt.
In an attritional first period played in swirling winds, Bristol regained the advantage when referee Darren Gamage awarded a penalty try – converted by Morgan - following a rolling maul.
But the visitors were reduced to fourteen men when Ben Mosses was yellow carded and, moments later, Jersey seized the initiative.
Wriggling free down the outside channel, Joe Buckle flew over in the corner for an unconverted score to draw the sides level at the break.
In a tightly-contested second period, Aaron Penberthy saw a long-range penalty goal sail wide of the upright before the hour mark.
Andy Robinson’s men went back in front when Marco Mama crashed over from the driving lineout to give Bristol a narrow 10-15 lead.
With little more than ten minutes left on the clock, replacement prop Gaston Cortes saw yellow to reduce Bristol to fourteen men for the second time in the game.
From the resulting penalty, Jersey's Ryan Hodson powered over after a surge at the driving lineout, while Penberthy’s conversion edged the home side ahead.
In the tense final stages, Marco Mama’s second try handed Bristol a narrow three point lead at 17-20.
And Nicky Robinson’s last-gasp try – ghosting between two defenders to touch down for a converted score – ensured the visitors came away with a bonus point win at St Peter.
