Bristol Rugby made it three Championship victories in succession with a clinical 24-7 victory over Jersey on Saturday.

Tom Varndell’s brace, an Olly Robinson try and seven points from the boot of Gavin Henson ensured the visitors left St Peter with a valuable win.

Bristol made the best possible start when Tom Varndell capitalized on a fine Ryan Edwards break to muscle his way over the whitewash to break the deadlock.

Olly Robinson came close to crossing for a second inside the first five minutes, before Gavin Henson’s penalty put the visitors 0-10 up after an impressive opening quarter.

The Bristol fly half missed a second attempt at goal midway through the first period, but Andy Robinson’s men extended the advantage with a second try soon after.

And it was Tom Varndell who bagged a second, cantering in under the posts after Will Cliff had darted blind to exploit a gap in the home defence.

In a tightly-contested second half, Jersey’s Tom Howe raced in from forty metres for a converted try, reducing the deficit to 7-17.

With less than ten minutes on the clock, Olly Robinson crashed over from the back of a driving lineout, while Jarvis converted from the angle to confirm a hard-fought victory.
