Report: Richmond Ladies 24-22 Bristol Bears Women

Bears Women suffer back-to-back Tyrrell’s Premier 15s defeats as Richmond Ladies fight back in the second half to win, 24-22 at the Richmond Athletic Ground.

What Happened?

Kim Oliver’s side started the round nine clash in the ascendancy as Elinor Snowsill converted a penalty on the ten minute mark, before full-back, Merryn Doidge carved her way through the Richmond defence to finish from twenty-five metres out.

The visitors stretched their lead out to fifteen points when Abi Chamberlian’s attempted box kick was charged down by the Bears Women defence and Ebony Jefferies collected the loose ball before diving over the line.

Richmond fought their way back into the game and gave themselves a lifeline when Oli Davies collected Chamberlian’s weighted kick in behind the Bears defence and won the race to the try line.

Bears Women responded through Elinor Snowsill, who produced a fine solo effort cross the whitewash and give the Bears a 22-7 lead at the half.

The hosts came out fighting in the second half and got themselves back into the game when Abi Chamberlian crossed from close range on the fifty minute mark.

As the game entered the final ten minutes, Richmond retained the ball well and went though the gears and Emelie Hellgreen found a gap in the Bears’ defence to cross and set up a tense final few moments.

It was to be heartbreak for the Bears as Richmond completed their comeback in the seventy-ninth minutes as Anna Caplice crossed to secure victory for her side.
