REPORT: Richmond Ladies 31-22 Bristol Ladies

Bristol Ladies fell to a 31-22 defeat at Premiership leaders Richmond Ladies on Saturday.

With both sides missing key international players due to the autumn fixtures, Richmond started the brighter when Holly Myers darted through within the opening five minutes.

The home side were reduced to fourteen and Daisy Travers’ well-worked try soon after kept Bristol in touch. But two Richmond tries before the interval gave LJ Adams’ side a mountain to climb.

Anna Caplice’s try – Richmond’s fourth of the afternoon – put her side 26-5 up, before Bristol launched a fightback. First, Clara Neilson crossed from front range, before Philippa Tuttiett went over moments later.

Richmond hit back once again, but Sydney Gregson’s storming break and finish set up a nervy finale, although the hosts held out to condemn Bristol to defeat.

Head Coach LJ Adam said: “That was a great game of rugby, and I’m really proud of the way we played today. It wasn’t the result we wanted, but the performance was spot on. After our last two games we need to come out with more self-belief and we did.

“We had so many players out of position today, with our prop Daisy on the wing, back row Olivia Jones playing in the backs too – but each player stepped up today and took responsibility. Our young backrow played fantastically well today and Chantelle Miell also stepped up in her new position of scrum half.

“We have some things to work on this week in training, as we look to tweak some of attacking play and eliminate those handling errors. We’re excited for Aylesford next weekend, and hope to get back on track for that top four finish with will take us into the play offs!”
