Bristol Rugby extended an impressive winning run in the Championship with a 36-17 defeat of Rotherham Titans on Saturday.

Andy Robinson’s men scored five tries at Clifton Lane as Mitch Eadie grabbed a brace, while Tom Varndell , Ben Mosses and Jack Lam also crossed.

Bristol raced into an early lead when Tom Varndell burrowed over from close range for a converted try.

Ben Mosses added a quickfire second soon after, before a yellow card for winger Jack Hayes reduced the hosts to fourteen men before the quarter hour.

After Mark Sorenson’s try was chalked off for an adjudged forward pass, Rotherham skipper Tom Calladine rumbled across the whitewash for an unconverted score to get Rotherham on the board.

Sean Scanlon’s touch down reduced the deficit to 10-14, but Jack Lam restored Bristol’s advantage with a convertd try from the back of a driving lineout late in the first period.

The visitors started the second half brightly and grabbed their fourth score- and the bonus point – courtesy of Mitch Eadie, while Gavin Henson converted the extras.

And the talismanic Henson added a well-struck penalty goal soon after to move Bristol into a 10-31 lead on the hour mark.

Eadie muscled his way over for a second of the afternoon as Bristol seized control of the encounter on the hour mark.

But, with ten minutes remaining, Jordan Davies flew over for a converted try to give Rotherham hope of launching a last-gasp fightback at Clifton Lane.

Bristol withstood the attacking onslaught however, to record an important win and remain top of the Greene King IPA Championship.
