REPORT: Wasps Ladies 3-39 Bristol Ladies

Bristol Ladies made a flying start to the Women’s Premiership season, beating Wasps 3-39 at Twyford Avenue.

The visitors scored six tries in the Women’s Premiership clash, as Marlie Packer bagged a brace, while Izzy Noel-Smith, Cat McNaney, Poppy Leitch and Carrie Roberts also crossed in a convincing display.

Amber Reed’s penalty got points on the board early on, before Marlie Packer grabbed two tries in quick succession. Izzy Noel-Smith went over from close range to give Bristol a commanding 3-22 lead.

On debut, Cat McNaney went over for a fine solo try, while Leitch and Roberts went over to seal a stunning away-day win.

Head Coach Roy Davies said: “A bonus point win is a great way to start the season. The first 20 minutes looked very much like the first 20 minutes of the new season with a lot of inaccurate play, however we soon raised our standards to the level we would expect from ourselves.

“I was really pleased with the way we adapted our game to the conditions and were able to great pressure on a hardworking, aggressive Wasps team. We had a strong squad tonight which was vital as our players came off the bench and made an impact and contributed fully to what was an excellent performance for this stage of the season.”
