Bristol Bears Women fell to a heavy defeat against play-off bound Wasps Ladies in their last outing of the 20/21 season.
Wasps were at full throttle from the outset and raced into a commanding lead inside the opening twenty minutes as Katie Mason, Claudia MacDonald and Flo Williams all crossed the chalk.
Bears needed a response quickly if they were to stay in touch and the visitors found that glimmer of hope when Rownita Marston powered over the try line.
Slick hands from a quick tap free kick saw the ball flow through the hands of Natalia John and Ellie Mulhearn to find Marston on hard line, which brought the Bears off the mark and momentarily back into the game.
Wasps then hit with an almighty counterpunch as MacDonald and Mason bagged their braces with long range efforts, before Kate Alder rounded off the scoring before half-time to see Wasps head into the sheds 38-7 to the good.
Bristol Bears were much improved at the start of the second period with a point to prove.
The visitors were resolute in defence throughout the opening fifteen minutes, even when reduced to fourteen after Pheobe Murray was sent to the sin bin for deliberately slowing the ball.
Alder grabbed the last score in the first half and then the first in the second as she successfully charged down Lauren Smyth clearance kick to race away and dot down.
Wasps didn’t look back as Ellie Kildunne got in on the scoring with a sublime eighty-metre effort, before Katie Mason bagged her hat-trick with just over ten minutes left to play.
Bristol Bears weren’t to be denied of a second try in the game, which was scored by Chelsea Jones. The youngster crashed over the chalk late on to take the Bears into double figures.
The game’s final try fell the way of the hosts as Kildunne secured her brace to take Wasps past the 60-point mark and inflict a heavy final day defeat on the Bears.
