Bristol Bears Women slipped to defeat at the hands of Worcester on Sunday, despite a second half fightback from the visitors.
Bears trailed 22-0 at the interval, but Alice Lockwood’s try early in the second period gave Bristol hope. Lauren Smyth and Simi Pam also crossed for tries, but it wasn’t enough to stave off a fourth successive defeat in the Premier 15s competition.
It was a difficult start at Sixways as Worcester hooker Carmen Tremelling rolled over from a driving maul in the opening five minutes. The home side doubled their advantage on the ten minute mark courtesy of Jade Shekells’ slick finish.
Worcester dominated the opening exchanges and stretched further ahead when Paige Farries capitalised on a Carys Cox break to touch down. Then, before the half-time whistle, Carmen Tremelling bagged her second with another close-range effort.
The second half was a different story as Bears began with real impetus. Replacement Alice Lockwood was on hand to finish off a flowing counter, before Lauren Smyth added a quick fire second with an impressive solo effort, going in under the sticks for the converted try.
Although Tremelling completed her hat-trick just before the hour mark to give Warriors breathing space, Simi Pam’s close-range try gave Bears hope going into the final quarter, but the visitors couldn’t find a way through a stubborn Worcester defence.
