Revitalised Titans 'a different side' from November clash - Lam

Pat Lam says Bristol Rugby will take on a revitalised Rotherham Titans at Clifton Lane on Saturday, as they target an immediate return to winning ways in the GKIPA Championship.

Rotherham, who remain bottom of the second tier, were edged out by Ealing Trailfinders last weekend, as Bristol-bound Luke Daniels’ last-gasp penalty sealed a dramatic victory at Vallis Way – but Lam insists Titans are ‘a different side’ to the one that visited Ashton Gate in November.

“We’re pretty focused,” he said. “This is our second week of preparation for this game. If I described how it’s gone, I’d say focused, intense, competitive and determined. So, we’ve got a few more training sessions to do, but then we’ll head up there to get the show back on the road.

“Rotherham are a different side – we saw that before they played Ealing last weekend. The boys did some analysis work on them and everyone commented on that change.

“There has been a coaching change up there, so we knew straight away that there was a difference in how they played. And then they had four tries against Ealing – four good tries as well – within 26 minutes and they were very unlucky.

“We’re pretty focused. This is our second week of preparation for this game. If I described how it’s gone, I’d say focused, intense, competitive and determined.
"So, we’ve got a few more training sessions to do, but then we’ll head up there to get the show back on the road."

Pat Lam, head coach

"I thought there were a few decisions that went against them at the end and they certainly deserved to win that game – so it just shows the challenge that we’re going up against.”

After a first league defeat of the season against Jersey Reds last time out, the head coach has also called for his players to ‘roll up their sleeves’ in South Yorkshire on Saturday.

“I think the biggest thing was the desire and the work off the ball – that’s what we pride ourselves on,” he said.

“It’s not rocket science – when you’ve got Jersey players running back and beating us to rucks and the ball, that was the disappointing thing. We’re not happy about it and that’s what we’ve got to fix.

“Based on the attitude and intensity of training, everything is focused on the Rotherham game and nothing else.

“It’s about rolling up our sleeves and getting on with it. It’s probably the ideal scenario for us, because we’ll have to bring a good attitude.”
