RWC 2019 committee set for Ashton Gate visit

A travelling contingent from the Rugby World Cup 2019 Organising Committee (RWC 2019) and the Japanese Rugby Union (JRFU) is set for a taste of Premiership Rugby in November.

Ashton Gate will host the touring party on Sunday, November 18th, when Bristol Bears face Exeter Chiefs in BS3.

Japanese media including national broadcaster NHK Television, Forbes and GQ, and delegates from World Rugby also form part of the visiting group to the West Country.

“We’re delighted to host this group from RWC 2019 and showcase a Bristol Bears matchday and what Ashton Gate can offer,” said chief operating officer Mark Tainton.

“The South-West derby with Exeter in front of a bumper crowd will give the touring party a taste of the passion for rugby in Bristol. We’re proud that they have chosen to visit Ashton Gate.”

“Over the summer, we revamped our matchday experience to improve engagement with supporters through a number of initiatives including our matchday clubhouse, themed music on matchday and our extensive fan village with locally sourced food, drink and live bands.

“The South-West derby with Exeter in front of a bumper crowd will give the touring party a taste of the passion for rugby in Bristol. We’re proud that they have chosen to visit Ashton Gate.”

Nicholas van Santen, International Communications Manager at RWC 2019 added: “We are delighted to be bringing our Japanese media contingent to Ashton Gate to experience top-flight Premiership Rugby in the South-West.

Visiting Twickenham to watch Japan play England, and then following this up with a true West Country derby as Bristol Bears take on Exeter Chiefs will really give our journalists a taste of how strong the culture of Rugby is in England. As Japan gears up to host Rugby World Cup 2019, we are looking to impress upon the Japanese public how vibrant and truly international the world of Rugby is.”

“Ahead of the match at Ashton Gate, our group will do a tour around Bristol to take in the sights and sounds of this great city. Our journalists are well aware that Bristol was voted as Best Place to Live in Britain in 2017, so they are very eager to experience this for themselves.”
